Sunday Funday at y&i!

It's no secret that once the weekend starts, life is good and all of the stress and worry from the week suddenly vanish. There is not a worry in the world until Sunday morning rolls around and reality hits: tomorrow is Monday. Whether it be worry, panic, or just pure sadness that your two days of freedom are gone (until the following weekend, of course), it is not a very pleasant realization, to say the least.

However, I am quite excited about the end of this weekend for one reason, and one reason only: Sunday Funday at y&i clothing boutique! This Sunday, August 5th, y&i invites you to beat this summer heat with a mimosa bar, 10% off all full priced merchandise, raffle prizes, and colorful cocktails.

Obviously, they had me at mimosa...but I am also super pumped about the raffle. If you purchase any item, your name will be put in a drawing for a chance to win 3 different summer giveaways! The raffle will be all day (12-6pm) and the winners will be contacted at the end of the day to collect their winnings!

Sounds like the perfect way to end a great weekend! See you SUNDAY!

Great Gifts Under $100!

I'm sure we all can agree that it is nice to get a little gift every now and then.  Although it's always fun when I'm the one on the recieving end, there is still nothing better than giving someone a gift, especially if you know they will love it!

I know I don't speak alone when I say this time of year is typically when my calendar starts getting a little booked. Last minute weekend trips are planned, birthday dinners are put together, and end-of-summer (sigh...) pool bashes are beginning to form. That being said, I have got a few gifts to buy. But with such a jam-packed social calendar, it can be overwhelming for anyone with so many presents to buy, especially when the cost of these so-called little gifts add up.

Typically, I am a procrastinator when it comes to these kinds of things. But one thing I learned from my mother ("the hostess with the most-ess" is one of her favorite phrases...) is that there is nothing worse than accepting an invitation and showing up empty-handed. To avoid this dilemma, I have decided to get a jump start on brainstorming gift ideas for these kinds of occasions and have found the perfect gift for everyone on my list- all under $100!

1. The Fashion File Book, Brooks Brothers $28.50
3. Rana Cocktail Ring in Blue, Kendra Scott $50
4. Votivo Candle in Red Current, y&i Clothing Boutique $28
5. Cork Date Night Package, Cork Wine Bar $50-$100
6. Hand Beaded Braceletes from Bali, Indigo 2 for $25
7. Bailey Leather Tablet Case, Banana Republic $69.50
8. Too Faced Natural Eye Shadow Kit, L.Bartlett $34
6. Nail Bar Gift Card

Summer Vacation Essentials: What to Pack

Whenever the word 'summer' comes to mind, so does the word 'vacation'... like 'milk' and 'cookies.'  I mean lets face it -- adults need summer vacation too! I constantly find myself daydreaming of lounging by the pool, soaking in the sun, and feeling the cool ocean breeze somewhere exotic. My tropical paradise, however, is rudely interrupted by a dreadful realization: packing.

We all know that along with the joys of any dream vacay comes the stressful planning of what to pack. Lucky for you, I just returned from sunny California last week and have the packing essentials fresh on my mind. So whether you are off yachting in the south of France or island-hopping in the Caribbean, (a girl can dream, can't she?) there are a few items that should be in every suitcase.
Here are my MUST-HAVES:

1. Maxi Dress: Always bring this. A maxi dress is always a good choice because you can easily take it from day to night. Dress it up and wear it out to dinner or you can dress it down and wear it to the pool. Fashionable and comfortable are always key, just like this Gypsy 05 little number from L.Bartlett.
2: Denim Shorts: You can never go wrong with jean shorts, plain and simple. A pair like these from Lucky Brand should be in every girl's suitcase.
3. Summer Sweater: Even in the warmest of weather, a light sweater like this from Club Monaco is always good to have. Even if it just gets it's use in the frigid airport, you will be thankful. Plus, many places that are warm during the day can quicky turn cool at night. Trust me, you will be glad you brought it.
4. Tote: A carry-all that you can throw everything in is super practical when you are taking a trip. Use it to store your passport, wallet, makeup- anything you want. Some can be bulky and a pain to take, I know. Try to find one that is easy to pack that can easily lay flat in your suitcase, like this leather travel tote from Gap.
5. Basic accessories: Once the issue of what clothes to bring is determined, you're still not quite done yet. I love bold statement pieces just like every other girl, but sticking to the basics is never a bad idea. Also, try to stick to one color- either silver or gold- to avoid overloading on jewelry. You can still accessorize and add some flare to your outfit with simple pieces, like these hoops or link necklace from Banana Republic.
6. Flip-flops: Flip-flops are a definite must. They basically take up zero space and can just be thrown in your bag! I like these Yosi Samra flats because they are comfy and basic, but also can easily be dressed up. You can wear them daytime or night. Or shoot, because of the comfort factor, wear 'em all day and night!
7. Clutch: When going out at night, have fun with your outfit and carry a  clutch or small purse. Usually I like to bring clothing in neutral colors that are easy to mix and match and add a colorful punch with accessories. I like this Rebecca Minkoff Mini M.A.C. from Demerara because the blue is a pop of color but it is dark enough to be chic and neutral enough to easily be worn with anything.
8. Nude Wedge: Let's face it- every girl loves a good shoe. That's sometimes the best part of an outfit! Unfortunately, they can also take up the most room in your suitcase. Luckily, good nude wedge will go with everything. The comfort of the platform of this pair from LOFT is an added bonus if you are going to be walking around a lot.
9. Travel-Size Toiletries: Once you made it this far packing, you can finally start to see the end of the tunnel! I always find it really useful to bring travel-size toiletries. It seems like an obvious essential, but it's also really easy to forget to bring (plus, sometimes even the nicest of hotels have the worst taste in shampoos).  I discovered the best shampoo, Kérestase, at Lure Salon and was so excited to find that the brand makes their products in travel-size!

Of course, I couldn't forget about the guys out there:

1. Shorts

Now, enough of this packing nonsense. Get going! Your adventure awaits you.

Playing With Prints

There's something about slipping on a good 'ole pair of blue jeans that screams simple, yet oh-so-chic. Ever since 1853 when Levi Strauss manufactured the very first blue jeans, denim has been an American classic and fashion go-to that's found in closets nation-wide. However, we all know that the ever-fickle fashion world always wants change. What would fashion be if it always stayed the same? That is why they have staged a revolution... a denim revolution, that is.

Throughout the years we have seen denim evolve into different shapes, styles, and colors that I guarantee you Mr. Strauss never dared dream of. There is the boot cut, the flare, the skinny, the boyfriend ...and now PRINT. Let's just say this takes the color denim craze to a whole new level.

Last week I was loving all of the patriotic gear to represent the USA on Independence Day, but amid all of the stars and stripes I couldn't help but fall in love with the rest of the prints out there- floral, tie-dye, feathers... I'm obsessed. Take a que from your favorite celeb style and find the right print for you! Or choose them all, like me...

y&i Party Wrap-up!

Remember my post about the newest addition to West Village? California-based clothing boutique, y&i, celebrated their grand opening last Thursday June 7th. If a line of eager customers waiting out the door were any indication of success, then I would say owners Robyn and Robin (hence the y and the i…) have good reason to celebrate! The Dallas high school besties and college roommates have combined their love of fashion to create a boutique that is fun, fashionable, and best of all- affordable. The store is full of flowy dresses, colorful tops, and bright accessories that allow customers to mix brands and create a stylish look for a reasonable price.  A 100+ crowd turned up last Thursday night to kick off the store’s arrival to West Village and of course, shop!

From the minute the doors opened, anxious customers poured in and the first 50 attendees scored some pretty sweet swag bags. Needless to say, the bags went fast! But those that arrived fashionably late did get a chance to win some free goodies in a raffle. (I'm talking legit shoes, jewelry and gift cards!) Every fifteen minutes a ticket was drawn and the number called out won a prize.  Sadly, my number was never called (I had my hopes on winning a pair of snakeskin flats) but my purchases were quickly justified when I learned all merchandise was 20% OFF! After obsessing over the assortment of clothes and jewelry, I had worked up an appetite. The stylish soiree, hosted by Dallas Tidbits, featured complimentary Mediterranean bites from Baboush and Pinkberry, as well as sips from No. 3 Dry Gin from Anchor Distilling Company

y&i clothing boutique Opens May 9th!

Photo taken from www.shopyandi.com

We've tried hard to keep this under wraps - so we were thrilled when we were given the green light to spill the beans! Highly-anticipated California-based y&i clothing boutique will be opening its third location HERE May 9, 2012. The store will occupy the former J’Adore Paris space across from Malai Kitchen. Here, y&i shoppers will enjoy a well-edited assortment of fashionable, well-made clothing at an affordable price.

Anchored by its signature green and white stripes, y&i’s new location features abundant windows for natural light and enough personal touches to create a bright, friendly atmosphere where shoppers can feel at home.

y&i owners Robyn Sribhen White and Robin Boesch (get it? Robyn and Robin? 'y&i'...) first met as high schoolers in Dallas and later were roommates at the University of Texas in Austin. Despite post college careers on separate coasts, the friendship endured until their shared love of affordable fashion brought them back together.

“We’d visit each other whenever we could, and spend hours shopping and obsessing over fashion magazines,” says White. “We were struck by how difficult it was to find a shop where you could get a great outfit for under $300, so we decided to create one.” By giving shoppers the opportunity to mix brands like Joe’s Jeans and Ella Moss with affordable pieces from Billabong and Steve Madden, the duo has turned their dream into reality.

After opening stores in San Francisco, CA and Austin, TX, Robyn and Robin are excited to bring their California-casual style to their hometown.  In addition to contemporary brands like Rachel Pally, Free People, Paige Premium Denim, and LA Made, y&i offers a savvy selection of jewelry, shoes and handbags. The store even has its own label of wallet-friendly clothing.
