The 2nd Annual Celebrate Uptown is just around the corner!
April 24th-26th, 2013
Celebrate Uptown is a signature event that celebrates the best of Uptown Dallas. The three day event is designed to attract Uptown enthusiasts including residents, employees and patrons. This year’s shopping, dining and concert events will benefit Katy Trail, McKinney Avenue Trolley, W. B. Travis Vanguard & Academy and Notre Dame School.
Here are the exclusive details on what's happening each day of the event:

Come dine in Uptown! Enjoy a private, two course meal at one of our participating restaurants listed below. Before heading home, join the after party featuring music by Mick Tinsley Trio, a dessert buffet and a complimentary champagne cocktail at Sambuca Uptown!

Abberant Sole is a small, independent business based out of Ft
Worth, Texas created for those who choose to deviate from the fashion-norm. Their sleek, sexy shoes are sold exclusively through their online shoe boutique. They are among one of the first in the U.S. to carry the Mojito, a unique shoe design concept first developed by Julian Hakes in London. After three years of development, the product line has become an incredible fashion success in the UK and is now an approved brand for Swarovski Elements in the US.

Isabel Varela is a local designer with cultural influences from Panama and Honduras. She interned with BCBGMAXMAZRIA in Los Angeles as an assistant designer while pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree in Apparel Design from Louisiana State University. She contiued her education with a master class at the Miami International University and attented a Global Fashion Field Study in China where she was chosen as one of only 20 international students to study in Paris at the Ecole Duperre, Ecole Superieure des Art Appliques. In 2011 she collaborated with Ashlee Brooks Patton to launch contemporary womenswear line Varela + Brooks which was named runner-up at the fifth annual Texas' Next Top Designer competition and both were finalists to compete on the NBC reality show "Fashion Star." Isabel has designed wardrobes for numerous movies and became a semi-finalist on Project Runway Season 8. She is now focused on her newly launched line, IZAVEL.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: I Love the '90s
For Throwback Thursday today I'm taking a stroll down memory lane to the dear old days of my childhood: the '90s. For those of you fellow '80s babies out there who grew up during this decade too, I'm sure you can back me up when I say: it was awesome.
I can remember it like it was just yesterday: Nickelodeon wasn't just a channel; it was life. My biggest fear was running out of batteries to my ipod portable cd player. My favorite past times were AIM, playing Dream Phone, and dominating at Mario Kart on Nintendo 64 (Princess Peach was my girl). "As if!" and "you've got it dude" became regular phrases thanks to Cher and the adorable Michelle Tanner. I stayed awake at night worrying about Ross and Rachel's relationship status (they were so not on a break) and I dreamed of the day I would marry all of my celebrity crushes whose posters covered every inch of my walls (JTT 4-Ever).
One part of the '90s has managed to make a comeback- fashion. I will admit that not all of the trends from this decade should make a reappearance... I can't quite say I am ready to break out a pair of MC Hammer pants just yet. However, a modern approach to the favorite looks from the '90s has been a recent favorite look of mine. I hope you are ready for a fashion flashback!
